January Night

Summary of the Lesson- The topic 'January night`has been written by the great writer prem Chand in which he has described about the poverty and friendship of men and animals. Halku, a poor farmer came to his wife and demanded some rupees to pay the landlords. His wife first refused to pay him three rupees which she had collected by them after gathering piece by piece. She told that she had collected it to buy a blanket. But when Halku told his wife Munni that the landlord would abuse him and did not give the lands to farm. She paid him three rupees to farm the field to get enough food to eat from it. Halku paid the money which he saved from his work, pics by pice  for his blanket.
A January dark night, in the sky even the Stars seemed to be shivering. He had a shelter of came leaves at edge of his field where he lived on a bamboo cot wrapped up in his old burlap shawl.Jabra the dog was whimpering with his muzzle pressed into his belly.
In the night Halku felt cold and he curled up drawing his knees close against his chin. He told Jabra that why he had come here in the cold while he had paddy straw. He told the Jabra that you thought I had come here to eat puris  and sweets but it was not true. The cold started to increase. Halku reached out his land and potted jabra`s cold back. The cold bitch of a west wind started to come fastly. He smoked his pipe but did not get relief from the cold. After he finished smoking. Halku lay down and made up his mind that however things were he would sleep now. Like some kind of witch the cold weak continued to torment him.
When he would no longer bear it he gently picked Jabra up and patting his head got him to fall asleep in his lap. The dog's body gave off some kind of stink but Halku  hugging him tight. Another hour passed. The night fanned up the cold with the wind. Halku sat up and bringing both knees tight against his chest his his face between them but the cold was just biting. It seemed as though all the blood had frozen.
There was a mango grove only a stone`s throw from Halku's field. The leaves had begun to fall and they were heaped in the grove. Halku started to collect the leaves and made a pile of  leaves. He ripped up some stalks from near by field, made a broom out of them and piking up a lighted cow dug cake went toward the grove. Halku fired them and felt hot in that night.
Meanwhile Jabra gave a load bark which meant that a pack of wild animals had probably broken into the field. Halku distinctly heard the noise of their moving grazing and nibbling. He thought with Jabra around no animal can get into the field, he's rip it to the sbreds. For few minutes  Jabra stopped barking but after sometime there was sound of munching and crunching were ruining his field but he was so comfortable there that it seemed intolerable to go to the field in this cold and chase after animals. He slept on the ground near the ashes of the fire and wake in the morning when his wife Munni was sitting near him telling whole was being flattened.
